Graphic Design

As a graphic design practitioner who mainly studied typography, and as a member of the community, my work focuses on discovering things that make us uncomfortable and create something that can deliver positive or provocative messages visually to open up the space for empathy on the issue.

Using the methodology of collecting and reconstructing things collected, I am aiming to create a new visual manifesto and communicate through it, mainly with texts and typefaces as a material.

Dear Daughter Performance ACNH

Dear Daughter is a visual manifesto that all the daughters in the world can participate to deliver what they want to say for their future daughters. This includes what we have heard some sentences that limit our pattern of behaviour as a woman, as a daughter. By collecting participants’ experiences and converting those sentences as positive sentences with variable typeface, it aims to comfort and encourage all the daughters who live in the past, present, future.

Keep Your Distance

Stack is a modular typeface which can be combined by a user. Pressing keyboard buttons from A to Z allows each of the modular strokes to be stacked as a full letter. Each stroke has a unique geometric pattern, and users can combine strokes to create personal characters. Each stroke can be adjusted in weight and shape by the user. It can be adjusted separately by stroke or the entire letter at once to create an individual typeface.


Since the coronavirus epidemic, there have been some fundamental changes in the way we live. The most dramatic changes would be the common practice of social distancing. We’ve all lived in a large or small intertwined community, but for the time being, we will have to adjust to living as a disjointed community.
These two images aim to illustrate how the world has been affected by the virus by using a variable font made up of geometric dots. The first image shows pre-coronavirus society, where various geometric shapes intersected and formed lines that translate into words. In the second image, the geometric shapes are disjointed and no longer physically connected. Despite this, it maintains its functionality, while still displaying the vital message.
The world has drastically changed to where we have to keep our distance from each other. Nevertheless, we can upkeep a societal harmony as before while maintaining distance. As if these small dots are not directly in contact, but they can still convey the same meaning.

Is the word ‘teen’ or ‘teenager’ ever okay to use in pornography? We cannot deny that ‘teen’ or ‘teenager’ is a broad and traditionally popular category in the pornography industry. Whilst actors referred to as “teen” are all legally old enough to film pornography and viewers are all aware of the fiction, it’s wrong to sexually objectify those at the point of transition from children to adults. In particular, when we focus on the words used to describe teenagers in pornographic titles, we can notice that they are even more strange, provocative and violent than the terms used to describe adults in porn. This was the starting point of my research: the pattern of how the pornography industry describes teenagers and its inherent paradox.    

School uniform is uniquely paradoxical. It stands as a symbol of teenage life, but it is also used sexually by adults and is even a visual medium in which teenagers express their sexual desires. They might, for example, shorten their skirt or tighten the shirts, etc. Whilst a school uniform may simply appeared checkered at a distance, when we get up close we can see that those checks are constructed from a limited lexical field used to describe teenagers in the pornography industry: the most commonly used terms associated with teenagers are ‘tiny’, ‘tight’, ‘petite’, ‘extra small’. This duplicity illustrates the conflict and hypocrisy of our image of both teenagers and their school uniforms.

I was, besides, endued with a figure hideously deformed and loathsome; I was not even of the same nature as man. I was more agile than they and could subsist upon coarser diet; When I looked around I saw and heard of none like me. Was I, the, a monster, a blot upon the earth, from which all men fled and whom all men disowned?"

"I had never yet seen a being resembling me or who claimed any intercourse with me. What was I? The question again recurred, to be answered only with groans."


In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dr Frankenstein collects bones from charnel houses to make a human lookalike creature. My project has begun with this methodology of Dr Frankenstein to create a new creature which looks like a human but not a perfect human.

Frankenstein’s creature is not a natural creation of life, but an involuntary creation of a dead body that is deliberately created by putting them together. Dr Frankenstein thought that he had attached the whole human body to create complete life, and though he(creature) actually had a body that could think, and even excels like a human being, Frankenstein’s creature regarded himself as incomplete and miserable. Simply, Frankenstein’s creature is an incomplete entity made by broken pieces of completeness. From this idea of complete incompletion, I collected the complete object in my daily life, something that was already designed after much consideration by someone, but was not interested in its existence, and gave it a new life and a new name.

Like the way of collecting bones, I collected a lot of free fonts over the website and created a series of typefaces by mixing and combining them. Beautiful Frankenstein is the latest series of my Frankenstein inspired typeface series. I wanted to make a more refined and readable but still have its unique charm like the creature of Frankenstein. I put all the different fonts in every single stroke with the methodology of Dr Frankenstein and applied it with the same stroke and appearance to give it a refined look.
