In this talk artists Tris Bucaro, Godith Hawkins, James Wilde and Lidan Yang, will share their work and discuss their practice in response to The Body in the Work. The body, while intimate and intimidating in contemporary art shuffles between vague lines of demarcation. Limbs and skin grounded by their movements and gestures. Splitting along the public and the private; the self and the anonymous; the familiar and the distant. These artists will reflect upon ideas of the archive, gesture, othering and gender by looking into the encounter and production of bodily images, how such may draft a tender contract between an art practitioner and their body, both physically and otherwise. The Body in the Work will be chaired by researcher and art historian Prof. Gemma Blackshaw.
