Service Design (MA)
Andrew Seetoh
My journey in design began when I realised that I could have a career doing something I might like and enrolled to design school. I've been a communication designer in an agency working with a dream client Netflix, as well as in-house. There was a time in between when I co-founded a supperclub. But I kept asking why, why did we do things like this, why why why. Then I chanced upon Service Design, which changed my attitude to design. I've since grown my capabilities, expanded my view on things allowing me to become a better designer.
Design helps me explore, plan and communicate my many interests. Different people have different meanings of design; for me, it is a decision thought through. I like working with the unknown, using stories to figure out complexity. Seeing something familiar in a new light excites me the most.
For my final project, I examined the effects of modern machines in our everyday life. It has helped me scan the landscape of technology and better understand where we might end up. After graduation, I would very much like to work in the field, to help us design better systems for preferable outcomes.
Digital Being — What is a digital being
Autonomy taken, from me and you.
With technology being more digital, it has never been more intertwined with our lives. The project examines how we interact with analogue and digital machines to then design a preferable outcome.
A digital being is a mix of our physical and virtual selves. Much of our abilities are augmented by technology, and we do many things digitally. We are like contemporary centaurs, half-man and half-modern machine. Our physical and digital lives can be different, but they interrelate. A better digital being is someone mindful about that balance.
Graham's Guide is mostly digital in the form of a website. Its goal is to create a community by being a resource for being mindful with technology. We do this by creating useful tips and tools that you can use and share. Find out more at https://grahamsguide.xyz/
