Experimental Communication

Julia Renning is interested in the boundaries between opposing worlds — the beautiful and the grotesque, the real and the imagined, the physical and the digital. She sees the female body as a vehicle and identity as performative parallels. As well as, interrogates speculative futures through fictional narratives. Her performances highlight and embody the dichotomy of these seemingly opposite ideas.

In her first year, she produced her electives end of term show, A Traditional Evening of Please.

During her time at the RCA, she was Producer of the SU Club, INSTINCTS.

She contributed as Secretary Show Rep in the development of the Vis Com WIP Show.

For the duration of her time at RCA she represented her pathway as a Student Rep for Ex Comm.

This year has been especially challenging for her as she has been struggling to manage her anxiety and depression amongst other obstacles. There were times which tested her willpower and she didn't think she could continue with the RCA; but amongst all odds, here we are.

Listening Eye

Listening Eye

The Listening Eye was featured at Jon Wozencroft’s Soundseminar, this March at IKLECTIK. Julia was inspired by Rear View Mirror a film by Alfred Hitchcock. This piece is an interactive print installation. When the audience entered the venue they were handed a program and a print strip clipped together. They were encouraged to take a strip and hang it as they like to create a new piece collectively.
