Aylesbury Estate — My site within the Aylesbury Estate, sits off Thurlow Walk and sits along Inville road within the Aylesbury Estate boundary. Being on the boundary of the estate allows for further engagement with both the estate and the surrounding activities. Despite the intended change of use the new proposal should be able to permeate back into the existing estate and connect with the other estate buildings and the existing residential gardens.

Dismantling Aylesbury Estate — On an estate around 285,000 sqm. It was necessary to assess what it could mean to dismantle the 5 storey housing blocks that make up parts of the estate. And to then determine what could potentially be preserved for reclaim and what would be demolished.

Potential Reclaimed Material Circulation — Observing potential demolition sites, different scales of reclaim resellers, their materials and their specific requirements in relation to the Aylesbury Estate allowed for speculation on a potential future where reclaim materials, resellers and any other individuals with the relevant skills and expertise surrounding construction and reclaim were able to circulate through the site and connect with each other.

The Reclaim Material Hub — The Reclaim Material Hub details how a territorial approach to the life cycle of material can influence a model for localised material reuse and recycling. Starting with the Material drop off block and sorting area extension where the decommission and refurbishment process for reclaimed materials begins.

Reclaimed Material Refurbishment — As the reclaimed materials move through the building, they pass through the refurbishment block where they can be dismantled, cleaned and previewed. The workshop extension connects the existing garage units from 8 existing 5 storey housing blocks and creates one collective industrial scale space, connecting the cleaning workshop and material preview lounge to an enclosed garden extension for discussion.

Reclaimed Material Showroom — The reclaim material showroom consists of the adaptation of 3 existing 5 storey housing blocks. It becomes a celebration of the reclaimed material that has been refurbished on site and passed through the building. The space allows people operating within material reclaim and the construction to come and view 1:1 scale mock-ups of refurbished materials that are ready to be recirculated and reapplied in a new context.
