Graphic Design
Weiwei Zhou
Weiwei Zhou is a graphic designer and sculptor currently based in London. She explores the boundaries between art and design by reflecting on her own role and identity due to constant geographic migration. Her photography is influenced and inspired by random objects, landscape and space in daily life. She sees them as accidental and natural installations that are curated carelessly outside of the white cube. Her work uses publishing, photography, image-making, text, object and installation as media to explore the diversity of interpersonal communication and captures the momentary subtleness in relationships.
You and I,
In different places,
At different times,
On different occasions,
Have seen things alike.

Besides the most literal and efficient methods of communication that are commonly used, e.g., text and emoji, are there alternative ways to converse? Can ambiguous images offer another layer and possibility for communication? Do they add more meaning to what is overtly and straightforwardly expressed in words?
As Henri Cartier-Bresson says, "photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event."
To me, these photos are the records of instantaneous moments, events, occasions, discoveries, stories I want to re-tell and share with friends. They are my quick responses to those particularly shiny moments in a seemingly mundane life. Yet when such moments cross paths in the shape of images, the two individuals behind the lens have, in a way, created a momentary link that resonates.
