Xinke Lyu
Xinke will graduate from the Royal Collegeof Art with amajor in MA City Design. She is from China and majored in environmental art design at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and received a bachelor's degree. During her undergraduate studies, she focused on architectural design, urban public space design, and rural transformation in China. Faced with the current situation of the lack of regional development in Rural China, she tried to put forward the design strategy of "bottom-up", residents' autonomy self-government and planned from the perspective of cultural development.
Xinke received several scholarships during his undergraduate years. Her undergraduate design work “Look Before your Leap” was selected by La Biennale International du Design Saint-Etienne 2019, and the Urban Public Space Design Project “Interactive Block Structure” won the Excellent Award (Second Prize) in the Beijing Urban Public Space Design Competition2018.
Xinke's main research in 2020 focus on creating a lifetime community for nurses and their families. Based on the UK housing crisis and the current shortage of NHS nurses, the study addressed the challenge of the shortage of nurses from architectural and urban perspective. Responding to the "lifetime neighborhood" manifesto, the design incorporates the intergenerational relationship into the space and put forward the strategy of instrumentalization of the living space, which means making building space as a tool to provide different uses for different residents. In the face of the special occupational group of nurses, the design focused on the reconstruction ofarchitectural orientation and corridor space, in order to create more opportunities for residents to meet and communicate with each other and help them to create morekinds ofrelationships. Xinke hopes that through her study, she can change the existing urban structure and the limitations of space use. discovering more possibilities in space utilization.
The Project site is located in The Wood Green area of London. It analyzed the basic conditions and existing housing in this area are to find the availability and development opportunities, which provides the basic theoretical system for the design. In the face of the housing crisis in the UK, although the government is aware of the importance of affordable housing, there is no response in terms of housing space and model for nurses, a special professional group. Therefore, starting from the grassroots level, this project dialectically analyzed the particularity of nurses’ work and individual needs for life and housing, and proposes the concept of special affordable housing for nurses. In addition, according to the wish of some retired nurses to continue to engage in the nursing industry, nurses’ housing will be combined with the rehabilitation center for the elderly to solve the problem that the elderly have nowhere to go after discharge, which leads to repeated treatment and increases the burden of the hospital.
This project has carried on the detailed design through the comparison site study of 2 cases. Considering the working mode of nurse shift, the design created separate units to reduce the disturbance between neighbors due to different hours of work and rest. As a linear space connecting each unit in the house, neighborhood community corridor starts from it and connects each independent unit in a more flexible way, so as to create more chances for residents to meet by chance and provide more public space to help residents share their life. The intended community is mainly for nurses and their families. In addition, to meet the needs of nurses who want to create more social activities, the design of balconies, terraces and Shared courtyards is added by changing the orientation of the Windows of the unit building, so that the community building space can provide residents with a diversified and natural interactive space.

Through the exploration of all the conditions, according to the current location and environmental conditions of the wood green, determine how to use the current conditions to rediscover and tap the potential of the wood green, and replan the Victoria terrace houses and the ground floor as the combination of the basic GP survey to obtain treatment Strategy in the field. Through on-site analysis, the selected area is in line with traffic and convenient life. In selecting housing locations, the strategy was developed by combining four affordable housing case studies. To be Specific,1. Propose cooperative housing model to reduce construction cost. 2. Implant the shared space to promote residents' communication and improve living comfort. 3.
