Graphic Design

Yuca Yu Yue

Yue’s practice has a deep influence by eastern philosophy and buddhist culture. With spiritual practice being an important aspect of her life, Yue has developed a keen eye for detail and found beauty in natural occurring patterns and textures which document traces of time and existence with absolute honesty. Her works attempt to challenge the norm of perception with her belief that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and even the most mundane has an exceptional beauty if one knows how to look.

Working with photography as one of the main mediums and use chance operation as a principle Yue is in constant investigation and experimentation to capture the unseen beauty both inward and outside. Yue has a BA in industrial design from National University of Singapore and worked as product/experience designer for various brands and companies before she decided to pursue a passion in visual art.

School of Communication

Graphic Design

We say we are from the school of communication, that we are the experts of so-called 'communication'. But what on earth is communication that we think we know? If you really have listened to the trees, the winds, the light; if you really have touched the soft pedal of a flower, a wrinkle on the bark of a tree; of you really ever tasted a drop of water, smelled the scent of soil when it's freshest after a spring shower, how could you not know deeply within your heart, how could you not tremble with immense joy and emotions, that everything, every single being on this earth, in this universe that's surround us, is in constant communication with us, only muted by our limited minds and beliefs.

Let us forget all things we ever learned, all thoughts we had, and what their purpose is. Let us remember not our own ideas of what the world is for and what reality is. We do not know. My wish is simply to be the medium, the channel that celebrates the very existence around. And in that I shall blend, disappear, form, and be reborn.

in the embryo of dust may the grand play of life begin

Breathing, the most essential part of living and the most magical. It is the channel for the life force within and the exchange of energy that's all around. When something breathes, it comes to life.

This set of breathing mandalas are made from footages in 'Reflection|观'. Each piece is a snapshot of time from a day's footage which makes them 28 in total, celebrating the immense self-transformation and enlightenment during that period of time.

All of them have a rhythmic movement that mimics calm, deep breathing for you to breathe along; or simply an object of beauty to rest your eyes on and let the mind drifts off.
So take a deep breath, breathe with ease and wholeness, feel each molecule inside, and expand together. Take everything in, and breathe all out, feel the life within and without, and be one with them all.

A performance, a real life, what's the difference when life could be the ultimate 'performance'?
The real question is - who are you, the one watching? Or the one on the stage?

This work is a 28 days' self-documentary/experiment/performance during the COVID19 lockdown. 28 is the moon cycle and the project itself started on a new moon and ended on the next, symbolizing a cycle in life. It is a personal journey into deep inner knowing and self-observation given the rare chance of a global pandemic and social isolation.
It is about inner reflection, introspection, and becoming one with one's own self.
