Zhenzhu Wang

Zhenzhu Wang, a menswear knitwear designer, is based in London and Beijing. Her first master degree came from the Dalian University of technology in China, engaging in fashion menswear and product. She is dedicated to studying the relationship between the human body, space, time and the environment through materials and garments.

Alone Together

I am going to draw attention to social emotion. In the contemporary society where everyone is an independent individual, I want to explore a hidden connection between people and their environment, which is broken, wild, sad, but also romantic.

I focus on culture and aesthetics, drawing inspiration especially from the Chinese rock groups of the 1980s and 1990s, who showed in their music and style authentic emotion and a desire for spiritual freedom. There are still today groups of people who love the atmosphere of that era, listen to their music, read their poetry. This is who I am and they are my audience.

Technically, to realise this hidden connection, I explore the extra space between body and garment. Sustainable materials are also part of my study, such as spun silk made by silk waste and damaged silkworm.
