RCA Drawing Presents
RCA Drawing is an independent collaborative project founded in 2019 by Lucy Gallwey and Sarah Mercer, working with artists and designers from across the Royal College of Art community. We lead classes that are student-focused, providing various accessible and experimental approaches to drawing, and utilise our unique position outside of the curriculum to provide a non-critical space in which students can play and experiment. The students we have chosen to present in this collection all have a close connection to drawing, line or mark making. We have selected works from across RCA2020, including students from Sculpture, Jewellery, Fashion, Illustration, Textiles, Ceramics, Architecture, Painting and Animation. They question what drawing means to them and the wider world, or what drawing could become. Some use drawing to express journeys, both physical and internal, and others explore the power of making a mark, ask what it means to erase, and explore what can be made of what is left behind.
To accompany this selection we are proud to host Draw With Us! RCA Drawing x RCA2020, an interactive online drawing session inspired by the drawing practices of two of our featured students, Adalberto Lonardi (MA Interior Architecture) and Vicky Yijia Tang (MA Visual Communication).
