DICE
I am a survivor of a toxic relationship. I wasted the better part of my first year on it but I managed to escape with the help of Student Support and my parents.
When I first began working on this project, I pondered on what I can compare the feeling of being in a toxic relationship with. Something that is unpredictable because you never know what is going to happen next.
If it is going to be bad or worse. Or maybe they will bring you flowers.
I think abusive relationships can be compared to the dice game. It is uncertain.
There is no way to know what is coming.

So I made an abuse simulation.

I used video clips from various classic films and music by amazing Lingua Ignota (https://linguaignota.bandcamp.com/)

A lovely domestic situation.
The kitchen smells like freshly baked biscuits.
Lined with an unsettling feeling.
I also used my alter ego to tell the story.

I conducted interviews with survivors of domestic violence and toxic relationship.
I come to realise that all their stories are similar.
I started to wonder how many people must have the same experiences out there.
This is why I created the Billboards with quotes from the interviews for the streets of London, as it would be an excellent way to raise awareness.
And let victims of abuse know _

I really hope you've enjoyed my work.
As I’ve suffered abuse and I always try to be as honest as possible.
I spent this year sharing my story, talking to people, explaining.
It's been like a reality show really...
You might wonder why I've chosen this particular aesthetic.
Most of the websites and flyers concerning domestic violence are pastel and nice.
Domestic violence does not have pastel colours.
It is dark, painful and full foreboding.
And besides... punks and goths can be victims of domestic abuse too.
