Sculpture (MA)

b.1995

based between Athens and London

'A land artist trapped in the city’ is a romantic understanding of my practise; a sculptural practise that extends from the physical to the virtual world. A compulsive escapism drives my need for world-making, while virtual environments allow me to share them. Memories of the past and the future explore possible realities of the now. My practise is an existential crisis in search for answers about time as space.

co-founder of ERGO Collective.

a desert of memory or my thoughts frozen in a moment of trauma: a knife, a threat:
[time as plastic and malleable; as space]
a moment, or three or one and none.
a dream, visualised and shared: a collective mental image.
a simulation that grows into living, into parallel realities and options of nearly present.
parameters that weave different stories in everyones’ computer deserts
that engulf your solitude
deserts that remind you of war, of the reality you see in the news
deserts that remind you of territorial expansion.
sand dunes you explored in video games of war, of sensationalised violence.
female curves and bodyscapes.
alone for miles and miles and millimetres, micro-pixels of immaterial space as time [ah!]
that slit of a moment, flipped sideways to create a horizon.
a desert formed from an image of sand:

a landscape scaled to host your wildest dreams of solitude in the safety of the digital desert.

_in the format of a video game, but existing within an undefined genre as an indefinite interactive film or
a memory visualised, shared and grown collectively.

_the game is divided into three phases: 16-23/07 ‘recalling a moment’, 23-30/07 ‘repeating of the
recall[-1]’, 31/07- ∞ ‘limbo of the mind’.

_the game is coded to sync with the computer’s system clock to determine the height of the terrain, the
narrative, sound and position of the sun. this is why it is important to download.

materiality sample for aluminium prints
In the desert you lose the sense of scale, of space, of time.
What seems close is more distant than you imagine.
Driving on a straight line for hours yet the landscape around you is so vast, you seem still.
The landscape wraps around you in 360, fully engulfing you in a circular panorama.
The desert is not rendered on a human scale.
In the desert you are alone, an outsider, in danger, in total serenity, and in awe.
In the desert you are close to death and more alive than ever.
Your sight ends where the curvature of the earth dissolves into a horizon line, where you are left
to wonder
at what is further away; between the sky and the earth.
Rocks and earth volumes do not reveal their size; their scale is convincing at any ratio.

In the virtual world you lose the sense of scale, of space, of time.
What seems close is more distant than you imagine.
Scrolling forward for hours yet the environment around you is so vast, you seem still.
The landscape wraps around you in 360, fully engulfing you in a circular panorama.
The virtual world is not rendered on a human scale.
In the virtual world you are alone, an outsider, in danger, in total serenity, and in awe.
In the virtual world you are neither dead or alive.
Your sight ends where the grid dissolves into a simulation of a horizon line, where you are left to
wonder
at what is further away; below and above the grid.
Virtual objects do not reveal their size; their scale is convincing at any ratio.
