My project focuses on to create a new relationship between the autonomous car and digital infrastructure. By designing a "new species" to help and enhance the 5G connection on road in smart cities 2030.

If I try to define a keyword or feature for future technologies, it must be "connection". Wireless data traffic has been increasing at a rate of over 50% per year per subscriber, and this trend is expected to accelerate over the next decade with the continual use of video and the rise of the Internet-of-Things (IoT), so we do need more higher speed and quality of network to make sure that devices can be connected. Whatever AI, autonomous driving, telemedicine and Mixed Reality, these technologies can definitely make our lives easier, safer and healthier. Behind these visions, it is inseparable from the Internet which modern people rely on. According to a Frost & Sullivan report, the global intelligent city market will be valued at $1.565 trillion in 2020. More than 25 global cities are expected to be smart cities by 2025.

According to my research, I found the potential challenge for smart cities in the near future is the connection issue from 5G service. Briefly, we cannot guarantee that whole city areas can be fully covered by high-speed 5G service, which means it is the risk of traffic accident will happen among fully-autonomous driving cars and pedestrians, therefore, I design a ‘utility vehicle’ with the 5G antenna and data hub as a signal repeater to enhance the signal service on road for autonomous vehicles.

In order to avoid adding more cars on the road, the vehicle I designed has two modes, unmanned mode and sharing car mode. The Cabin can be raised up and down to switch between those two modes.
