Print (MA)

2020 is an extraordinary year with all kinds of extraordinary events happening in the world. It is also a monumental year in which my art has progressed both practically and theoretically. No matter use what kind of materials and mediums, exploring the boundary between language and ineffability, dream and reality, existence and significance, has always been core themes of my artworks. Art, as a special kind of language, is a significant pathway for me to understand the world ontologically. Methodologically, I love using poetic fragments and metaphors to create something like music that has its own rhythm. Thus my project always presents as a series work, in order to comprise different chapters into a whole song.

Symphony NO 1 Movement 1 — The first movement is an opening sonata, which structure consisting of three main sections: an exposition, a development, and a recapitulation.

The Symphony No.1 series is my new experimental works. Through my art development, I am used to employing repeated items as my metaphors to create works. That kind of methodology reminds me of musical notes, which musician would arrange them into different beautiful songs. If the creating process is a free play of imagination and feelings, can I play the role of a musician to create something like the symphony? Inspired by that, I chose to use the long-form as my music background and several repeated metaphors as my notes to create a two-dimensional symphony. The different image presents different movements. The first movement is an opening sonata, in which the structure consists of three main sections: an exposition, a development, and a recapitulation.
