Yishi is a womenswear designer who focuses on the idea of the female gaze and on how women reveal or conceal their bodies. She wants to apply her understanding of sensuality to the making of desirable clothes.

“Voyeur”

Exploring how women control the way that their bodies are revealed has always been the area of interest for me as a womenswear designer. The aim of this collection is to capture sensuality, and the way I see sensuality is as an unrestricted sense of control. 

I offer choices to the wearer for fitting her surroundings comfortably, with garments that can be seen as objects for women to decide the way that they’re being looked at. With regard to the correlation between engineering a garment’s fit and the social situation in which the wearer wears it, I try to find new desirable areas of the body that can be exposed in a playful way. My pieces don’t expose directly but subtly, inviting voyeuristic looking from specific angles. Focusing on soft mechanisms, that can be patterns, buttons, silver chains, or layers of transparent fabrics, for the wearer to decide their level of exposure. I’ve also developed jewellery as part of the garments that can be worn in different ways. My design starts from the perspective of women, the female gaze which is more about exploring inner feelings and the freedom of privacy for contemporary women.
